Peek In Our Week +++ Thee Buckeye Room +++ Week Of September 11, 2023

Line Time:
Food Groups,
This week we had fun learning about the food groups in our class. Grains and Cereals (pasta, rice, bread, cereal, crackers), Fruit (apples, grapes, kiwi, mango which is my favorite), Vegetables (cucumbers, carrots, potato, broccoli, eggplant, which is my favorite) Dairy (my favorite… milk, cheese {I love cheese/smoked gouda}, yogurt), meats (beef, pork, chicken), and proteins, fats and sugars and how many servings we should have per day.

A Message From Mr. John (I really am shy):

Fun Fact:
Giraffe ‘horns’ are not actually called horns, but ‘ossicones’ and both female and male giraffe have them. Ossicones are formed from ossified (hardened into bone) cartilage and are covered in skin.

Remember this guy’s name? Bragging rights who knows without using Google.

Cultural Subjects:
Your children can now count to ten in 6 languages (English, Latin, Sign Language, Spanish, German, French)

Peek In Our Week:

Kinders working in their Kindergarten Binder.
She is working on the Ten Board. This work strengthens the correlation between quantity (tens) and symbols (10,20,30….)
A curious student observes work on the Colored Bead Bars. The Bead Stair consists of colored bead bars that concretely represent the numbers from 1-9. These bead bars with their characteristic colors are used to learn countless math concepts from basic counting, to skip counting, to addition, to multiplication, and even to the squaring and cubing of numbers.
She is working on the Number Rods with symbols. The Number Rods also help children learn the names of numbers and their sequence and learn to correctly associate between the spoken number and its quantity. Children grow to understand that each rod represents a unique quantity and that each number is represented by a single object as a whole, separate from others.
