Interjections!!!!!!  We learned that the Interjection enhances the message of the sentence.  If the Interjection is followed by a comma the emotion is not strong but if the Interjection is followed by an explanation mark that emotion is pretty intense.

Preposition was the focus of this week.  We learned that the preposition is a “where” word not a werewolf.  Some common prepositions are by, at, in, down, up, over, under, after, and before.

Food Chains was the subject for the week.  We learned or was reminded that animals eat other animals.  The animal that is doing the eating is called the predator and the animal getting eaten is called the prey.  Food Chains can be one, two, three, four part food chains.  For example….  You have corn getting eaten by a mouse.  The mouse gets eaten by a snake.  The snake gets eaten by a hawk.

We can now count to ten in 27 different languages (English, Sign Language, Latin, Spanish, German, French, Greek, Japanese, Arabic with the Lebanese Dialect, Italian, Russian, Romanian, Swedish, Tagolog, Hebrew, Korean, Hungarian, Irish, Kiswahili, Welsh,  Dutch/Flemmish, Polish, Serbo-Croation, Cebuano, Malay, Hindi, Farsi, and Turkish).

Peek In Our Classroom:

This student is working on rhyming words. Words that actually rhyme because they have the same ending sounds. An example is the “at” word family: bat, cat, fat, hat, mat, pat, rat, sat, etc. Using this approach to reading, children learn the phonic sounds of each letter and then begin reading words within word families. Children that have been exposed to rhyming can hear the similarities in words which aids them in early reading and spelling skills!

He is working on the Teen Board. Did you notice what pattern he came up with?

This week we learned about Life Cycles.  We went over the life cycle of mammals which is a very boring life cycle as our birds, reptile and fish.  We did discover that the life cycle of a toad/frog is a bit more unique (jelly eggs, tadpoles, froglet, frog).  Although, the life cycle of the butterfly is very interesting (eggs, caterpillar, chrysalis / cocoon, butterfly/moth).

He is working with the Blue Rectangle Box. This work you can make many shapes. He discovered he can make a ginormous hexagon.

This week we learned about Adverbs.  We now know Adverbs describe Verbs and is represented by an orange circle with the grammar symbols.  Adverbs usually end in “ly”  and if anyone asks how you are doing the Kindergarteners know to say I am doing WELL.

We continued to practice for the International Festival and created The Leaning Tower Of Pisa.  I am so proud of your children for the hard work they put into this event.  They worked hard learning their lines, learning songs, and helping with the creation of the Leaning Tower of Pisa.  I wanted to thank Kathleen and Sabrina for their hard work preparing your children for The International Festival.

Your kindergarten students have been learning how a pronoun (we learned about 6 of them .. he, she, it, we, they, you) takes a place of a noun. He is a boy, she is a girl, but never ever call a person an “it”.  we also learned that the adjective describes nouns and of course can describe the pronoun.

We are starting to practice for The International Festival.  We are learning our individual lines and learning the songs to be sung at the International Festival.  The children are having a good time practicing.

We had an alumnus read to our class.  She read a Bernstein Bears book.

 

    

The University Of Akron Field Students are working with their “Roo Buddy”  This week they are working with letter sounds and the concept of “Land, Air, and Water”.

 

These two students are working together on the United States Puzzle Map. They traced the states and are labeling each state.
This student is working on composing numbers from 11 to 99 with the Ten Board. The Ten Board helps the child recognize the numbers and quantities.

This student is working on a construction box which falls into the category of Geometry. This student made shapes such as a hexagon, chevron, trapezoid, parallelogram, and isosceles triangle.

We will be learning about the parts of speech until the end of the year.  We the learned there are three articles.  They are A, An, The and we learned rules when we use those articles.  “A” goes with consonants, “an” go with vowels, and “the” goes with both consonants and vowels. Moving along we leaned that a pronoun takes the place of a noun and pronouns sometimes make our lives easier.  We went over six pronouns He(boy), she(girl), we( a group we are included), they( a group we are not included), it(we use for non-living things and when we don’t know what gender).  We never call a human an “it” because it is rude.  “You” was the last pronoun we became familiar with.

 

The small blue triangle is the symbol for the article in the Montessori Classroom.
