Stephanie Appleton serves as an Elementary Assistant Directress in the Birch Classroom at Absorbent Minds Montessori School in Stow, Ohio. With more than 20 years of experience in education, Stephanie brings a diverse background as a classroom teacher, homeschool parent, teacher’s aide, and individual tutor. Throughout these roles, she has remained committed to nurturing a love of learning and helping children become confident, independent learners.
More Than 20 Years in Education
Stephanie earned her Bachelor of Arts in Economics from the University of Toledo. She later pursued her teaching credentials through Heidelberg College, preparing her for a career centered around children and education.
Over the past two decades, Stephanie has experienced education from many different perspectives. She has worked as a classroom teacher, teacher’s aide, and individual tutor. In addition, her experience homeschooling her own children gave her another opportunity to guide learning in a highly individualized setting.
Each of these roles has strengthened Stephanie’s ability to recognize students’ individual strengths and provide the encouragement they need to grow.
Supporting Independent Learners
Stephanie believes that education should do more than help children master academic skills. She wants students to develop curiosity, confidence, and a genuine love of learning.
This philosophy fits naturally within the Montessori elementary classroom. Rather than simply providing answers, Montessori educators encourage children to think, explore, ask questions, and become active participants in their education.
As an Elementary Assistant Directress in the Birch Classroom, Stephanie supports students as they develop greater responsibility for their work. She also encourages them to practice problem-solving and become increasingly independent.
Individualized Learning & Student Growth
Stephanie’s varied educational background has given her extensive experience working with children in different learning environments.
Her work as an individual tutor has been especially valuable in understanding how differently children may approach the same concept. Likewise, homeschooling provided firsthand experience adapting instruction to a child’s individual pace, interests, and learning needs.
At AMMS, Stephanie brings this perspective into the Montessori classroom. She works alongside the Birch Classroom teaching team to support lessons, small-group instruction, independent work, and the daily rhythms of the elementary environment.
Most importantly, she enjoys helping students discover that they are capable learners.
A Love of Learning and the Outdoors
Stephanie’s own curiosity extends well beyond the classroom. In her free time, she enjoys spending time outdoors and especially loves hiking, camping, and gardening.
These interests reflect the same sense of exploration and discovery that she values in education. Whether children are investigating a new academic concept or discovering something in the natural world, Stephanie appreciates the opportunities children have to learn through experience.
Her years in education, commitment to individualized learning, and desire to develop independent learners make Stephanie a valued member of the Absorbent Minds Montessori School community.
