Peek In Our Week * Thee Buckeye Room * Week Of 1/5/26 through 1/9/2026

After Winter Break, we went over the ground rules. Typically, after this break, students are a bit distracted by the busy holiday season. I do have to say this group handled the transition very well. Next week is back to the salt mines.

This session of Library Time focused on The Olympics.
She is working on the First Introduction To Decimals. The purpose of the Montessori introduction to decimals (using golden beads and cards) is to provide a concrete, sensorial understanding of place value (units, tens, hundreds, thousands) and the base-10 system, showing how quantities are grouped and exchanged, building a strong foundation for abstract math by making concepts like “ten units make one ten” tangible, and developing logical thinking and number sense. She looks rather surprised.
She is working on the Color Bead Bars. Montessori colored bead bars serve to make abstract math concepts concrete, helping children visualize numbers, develop number sense, and learn operations (addition, subtraction, multiplication) through multi-sensory, hands-on activities, using consistent colors to represent each number (1-10) and build a strong, sequential foundation for elementary math. They connect quantity (beads) with color, size, and symbol, fostering deeper understanding and memory. Do you see how the five bead bar matches her outfit????
She is working on Cards and Counters. Montessori cards and counters are a hands-on math tool to teach children the concrete concept of numbers, connecting abstract numerals (1-10) with their physical quantities, reinforcing one-to-one correspondence, counting, number order, and introducing the visual distinction between odd and even numbers through pairing the counters.
I taught her a nifty trick for wrapping a rubber band around objects.
