Music Instructor | Piano Teacher | Absorbent Minds Montessori School
Lisa Adams serves as the Music Instructor and Piano Teacher at Absorbent Minds Montessori School in Stow, Ohio. With a degree in music education and more than 20 years of teaching experience, Lisa brings extensive musical knowledge and a love of teaching to AMMS. Through singing, instruments, movement, and hands-on musical experiences, she helps students develop musical skills, confidence, creativity, and a lifelong appreciation for music.
Music Education & Experience
Lisa earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in Music Education and has more than 30 years of experience teaching music. In addition to her work as an educator, Lisa has performed professionally as a singer throughout the United States.
Her experience as both a teacher and performer brings a unique perspective to her work with students. Lisa understands music not only as an area of study, but also as a powerful form of expression, creativity, and connection.
Lisa is also a co-arranger of music used in the Exploring Music curriculum. Her background allows her to thoughtfully select music and create lessons that introduce musical concepts in ways that are engaging and developmentally appropriate for children.
Bringing Music to Life at AMMS
Each week, Lisa develops music lessons designed to help students experience and understand music through active participation. Rather than simply learning about music, students have opportunities to sing, move, listen, create, and play instruments.
As students progress through the program, their musical experiences grow with them. Lisa introduces concepts such as rhythm, melody, musical notation, listening, performance, and ensemble participation in ways that allow children to build skills over time.
Her goal is to make music accessible and enjoyable while encouraging students to develop confidence in their own musical abilities.
Hands-On Music in the Elementary Years
AMMS Elementary students have the opportunity to explore music through a variety of instruments and group experiences. Lisa guides students as they work with rhythm instruments, recorders, ukuleles, and bells, allowing them to experience music individually and as part of an ensemble.
She also leads the AMMS Elementary Bell Choir, where students learn the importance of listening carefully, following musical cues, working together, and recognizing how their individual part contributes to a larger piece of music.
These experiences give students opportunities to strengthen musical skills while also developing concentration, coordination, cooperation, and confidence.
Music & the Montessori Approach
Lisa’s approach to music complements the Montessori emphasis on hands-on learning, exploration, repetition, and growing independence. Students have opportunities to experience musical concepts directly and build understanding through active participation.
Music also gives children another language through which they can express themselves. Whether a student is singing, keeping a rhythm, learning an instrument, or performing with classmates, Lisa encourages children to participate, experiment, and discover the joy of making music.
Most importantly, Lisa loves sharing her passion for music with children and helping students discover their own appreciation for music.
