Art Instructor | Absorbent Minds Montessori School
Lindsey Wenck serves as the Art Instructor at Absorbent Minds Montessori School in Stow, Ohio. With a background in art education, art history, early childhood education, and library services, Lindsey brings creativity, curiosity, and a genuine love of learning to her work with students. Through hands-on art experiences, she encourages children to explore their ideas, develop artistic skills, and discover the joy of creating.
Art Education & Experience
Lindsey earned her Bachelor of Arts degree in Art Education from Kent State University, with a specialization in Art History. Her education provided a strong foundation in both artistic techniques and the history and meaning behind works of art.
Lindsey has been part of the Absorbent Minds Montessori School community for nearly five years. During that time, she has worked with students in several different roles, including as a Primary classroom assistant, Elementary classroom assistant, and Art Instructor.
Her experience across age levels has allowed Lindsey to build meaningful relationships with students while gaining a broad understanding of how children learn and develop. It also gives her the opportunity to connect art experiences with the curiosity, independence, and hands-on learning students experience throughout their Montessori education.
Encouraging Creativity & Self-Expression
Lindsey’s teaching philosophy centers on self-expression, artistic vocabulary, critical thinking, choice-based learning, and developing a lifelong appreciation for creativity.
In the art classroom, students are encouraged to do more than simply recreate a finished example. Lindsey provides opportunities for them to make choices, experiment with materials and techniques, solve creative problems, and develop confidence in their own ideas.
She also introduces students to art concepts and vocabulary that help them think and communicate more deeply about their own work and the work of others. Through these experiences, students learn that art can be a powerful way to explore ideas, communicate, take risks, and express themselves.
Art & the Montessori Approach
Lindsey appreciates the natural connection between art education and Montessori learning. Both encourage children to engage actively with materials, make purposeful choices, develop concentration, and learn through exploration and discovery.
As Art Instructor at Absorbent Minds, Lindsey works with students across the school, giving children opportunities to build artistic skills as they grow. Her goal is to create an environment where students feel comfortable experimenting and where the creative process is valued just as much as the finished product.
Most importantly, Lindsey hopes her students develop something that extends beyond any individual art project: a love of creation.
Beyond the Classroom
Lindsey is also a Children’s Librarian, combining two of her favorite things—creativity and working with children.
Outside of teaching, she enjoys making art, playing video games, and baking treats. And, as her students and families may already know, there’s always a chance you’ll spot Ms. Lindsey “out in the wild” at the Cuyahoga Falls Library!
Lindsey is grateful for the relationships she has formed with AMMS students throughout her years at the school and enjoys continuing to watch their creativity, confidence, and individual personalities develop.
